Glamping is good for your health and here is why

Honestly, I will find any excuse to go on a last-minute day trip to get out and see something new. Come rain or shine, I find myself searching for my next getaway. Now I get to use the health benefits that glamping provides as the perfect reason to spend more time outdoors!

“Glamping,” or “glamorous camping”, has become increasingly popular around the world in the last decade and Japan is no different. It is a fantastic option to bridge the gap between traditional camping and the comforts of home, making nature a little more enjoyable.

It has been medically proven that being outdoors will improve your health. With fresh, clean air and the added exercise of getting out and about, it will get your blood pumping and help you de-stress. Glamping is closing the gap between people and nature by removing the “do it yourself” element, which can be significantly off-putting for some.

Understandably, given the benefits, Glamping is gaining popularity in Japan and at Canyons Minakami we have a number of luxury canvas lodges built for superior comfort. Each site is unique and puts an original stamp on the experience for guests;

*** “New area” coming soon so watch this space for more options! ***

Safari - Overlooking a beautiful, natural swimming hole the safari tent has its own 5 burner BBQ grill, hammock, 15sqm of covered deck, and 25sqm of open deck space. Perfect for families or a couple with friends.

Riverside - Located...well...riverside! Experience the soothing sounds of the Yubiso river complete with a private deck. Perfect for a couple or friends.

Bell - Offering a cozy space for glampers, who want to enjoy nature together. Each tent has a small outside awning area and an indoor lounge area, well suited for an evening Kanpai! Perfect for families, or groups of friends.

Glampers can enjoy the relaxed surroundings without having to worry about the typical hassle associated with camping. After all, you do not need to bring tents, sleeping bags or even your own food, as all of the rates include breakfast and there are additional options for an evening BBQ (pre-booking required for BBQ).

If you are not convinced then there are other options in the Minakami Area to enjoy from budget backpackers to luxurious ryokan. Here are a few we recommend for a different experience:

Budget backpacker - Canyons Alpine Lodge - Cheap and cheerful offering bunk bed and Japanese style accommodation with our tours departing downstairs

Good choice - Minakamikan - Traditional Japanese rooms with river views. The Emporer of Japan and Imperial Family once stayed here.

Luxury Ryokan - Bettei Senjuan

- Offering spectacular views of Tanigawa-dake Mountain with a private hot-spring bath in your room

Noteworthy - Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku - A hot spring resort located in a gorge. Authentic Japanese inn offering the largest open-air bath in Japan

But honestly, stop wondering what Glamping is like, and come find out for yourself!
