Autumn is arriving

Autumn in Japan is often described as the most beautiful season when warm, rich shades of red, yellow and orange transform the countryside into a blaze of colour. It is the perfect time to take a trip into nature.

1 Canyoning and Rafting

The Minakami landscape will soon be fully enveloped with an array of autumn colours, offering a unique backdrop for your next adventure with Canyons.

We recommend joining one of our full-day combo tours; in the morning jump into the raft for a ride on the Tone River to get a 360-degree view of the gorgeous colours. After your burger lunch, head into one of our canyons for rappelling and sliding through the colourful landscape. If you didn't already know, we take your photos for free so be sure to share those autumn shots for everyone to see!

2 Hiking Tanigawa

Hiking is a very popular autumn activity and a great way to experience the range of colours on display. If you’re not keen to start at the bottom of the mountain you can even take the Tanigawa Ropeway to Tenjindaira, located near the summit of Mount Tanigawa.

You can find the autumn colours blooming at the top station of Tanigawadake Ropeway, where Tenjindaira is situated. A chair lift from here takes visitors to an observation deck above, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Also, consider a stop by Ichinokurosawa, a very famous spot to shoot photos.

3 Onsen

Takaragawa Onsen offers mixed-gender, open-air baths scenically located along the Takaragawa River. The main highlight of this onsen is how it seamlessly blends the manmade onsen with the surrounding nature. Each season offers a different vibe, making it feel like you're in a totally different place.

It is a perfect way to end your day and relax outside with family and friends whilst taking in the colours of autumn in a picturesque location.
